A Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican
by John Gray, Cincinnati, Ohio, July 2004
----------------------------------------------------

Joe gets up at 6:00 AM to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards.

He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and that they would work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employer's medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, that Joe now gets too.

He prepares his morning breakfast-bacon and eggs today. Joe's bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Joe takes his morning shower reaching for his shampoo. His bottle is properly labeled with every ingredient and the amount of its contents because some liberal fought for his right to know what he was putting on his body and how many chemicals it contained.

Joe dresses, walks outside and takes a deep breath. The air he breathes is cleaner because some tree hugging liberal fought for laws to stop industries from polluting our air.

He walks to the subway station for his government-subsidized ride to work; it saves him considerable money in parking and transportation fees. You see, some liberal fought for affordable public transportation, which gives everyone the opportunity to be a contributor.

Joe begins his work day; he has a good job with excellent pay, medical benefits, retirement, paid holidays and vacation because some liberal union members fought and died for these working standards.

Joe's employer pays these standards because Joe's employer doesn't want his employees to call the union. If Joe is hurt on the job or becomes unemployed he'll get a worker compensation or unemployment check because some liberal didn't think he should lose his home because of his temporary misfortune.

It's noon time. Joe needs to make a Bank Deposit so he can pay some bills. Joe's deposit is federally insured by the FSLIC because some liberal wanted to protect Joe's money from unscrupulous bankers who ruined the banking system before the depression.

Joe has to pay his Fannie Mae underwritten Mortgage and his below market federal student loan because some stupid liberal decided that Joe and the government would be better off if he was educated and earned more money over his life-time.

Joe is home from work, he plans to visit his father this evening at his farm home in the country. He gets in his car for the drive to dad's; his car is among the safest in the world because some liberal fought for car safety standards.

He arrives at his boyhood home. He was the third generation to live in the house financed by Farmers Home Administration (FHA) because bankers didn't want to make rural loans.

The house didn't have electricity until some big government liberal stuck his nose where it didn't belong and demanded rural electrification. (Those rural Republicans would still be sitting in the dark)

He is happy to see his dad, who is now retired. His dad lives on Social Security and his union pension because some liberal made sure he could take care of himself so Joe wouldn't have to.

After his visit with dad he gets back in his car for the ride home. He turns on a radio talk show. The host keeps saying that liberals are bad and conservatives are good. (He doesn't tell Joe that his beloved Republicans have fought against every protection and benefit Joe enjoys throughout his day)

Joe agrees. "We don't need those big government liberals ruining our lives; after all, I'm a self made man who believes everyone should take care of themselves, just like I have."

This is an interesting Psalm. I suggest reading the entire Psalm at the Skeptic's Bible:

Good stuff about how we should treat our enemies. Talk about going old testament!

This reminds me of the story that Shakespeare was involved in the translation of the King James Bible. One of the more obvious clues that he was at least one of the translators is Psalm 46. The King James Bible was being prepared for printing in 1610, when Shakespeare was 46 years old. The 46th word in the psalm is "shake." Not counting Selah (the equivalent of Amen), the 46th word from the end is "spear."

Although some scholars maintain that Shakespeare himself probably didn't do it, some one else likely did, as this variant appears in no other Biblical translation.

So, just the fact that humans could slip in such an Easter egg seems to be proof that God was not inspiring the translations of his work, at least. Unless he has a mischievous sense of humor, like Satan.

justme, It would be helpful if you listened to (or read) what another is saying (or writing) and responded to their thoughts rather than grabbing onto a bunch of assumptions. I was not trivializing Clinton's lying by not further identifying it as lying to the Grand Jury. It ranks high on the list of stupid things politicians have done and, undoubtedly, will continue to do.
What we are seeing in our country is the apparently inevitable conclusion of any system our species puts in place to govern itself. Our species seems doomed to game the system until it fails.

I'm sorry you felt insulted and talked down to. I don't believe I did. I guessed you never voted for a Democrat and you confirmed same. I accept your views and opinions, all of them, as being validly yours. I have not removed anything you posted.

Oh, so my mind is functioning as long as I fit in to a certain mold? How about your statement that everyone's opinion is as valid as yours?

You have judged me to be a Republican and a fundamentalist, I am neither. I have never once voted anything but Independent and never will. I detested Bush and his entire lying cabinet and I feel the same about Obama and his bin of loonies.

As for his so-called birth certificate, again they are all cut from the same rotten cloth and they are all puppets playing their parts. No one will challenge another on the same team.

For years no one would believe Roosevelt knew in advance about the attacks planned against Pearl Harbor but thanks to the Freedom of Information Act we can know the truth, as disgusting as it is. 9/11 was another Pearl Harbor and hopefully it won't take 50 or 60 years before all the facts are known.

If you truly believe you count or your vote counts, you are sadly fooled my friend. The people have been given so many issues to divide them and in the end conquer them.

There is a conspiracy against mankind and many have attempted to warn us. Eisenhower spoke of the military industrial complex becoming all powerful and it is here today.

Kennedy did the same and that got him killed.

J. Edgar Hoover made the following quote and he was in a position to know everything that was going on.
“The individual is handicapped by coming face-to-face with a conspiracy so monstrous he cannot believe it exists”.

We keep busy with petty political garbage that means nothing compared to an out of control conspiring greedy government. The Germans would have never believed their government could or would turn on them but it happened almost overnight. The people in this nation are so arrogant and brainwashed it is frightening. I guess they figure if we ignore the bad things they will go away. They won't.

There is no place for discussion here and dialogue is impossible if we must all be clones of one another. I am not part of any herd and I advise you to not become trapped in one.

There is no need to reply as I won't bother to post again, but you need to stop allowing comments if you only insult all who do not buy your views 100%. There is no one on this earth that knows it all and has all the correct answers. We may never find truth as long as this type of censorship continues. Degrading and talking down to those who have a different opinion is one of the oldest tactics in the world. Religious have used it for thousands of years.

Dear justme,
Your first two posts show that you have a functioning mind; that you can think. They are good thoughts. Your last two posts prove my point that many people shut down their minds when they come across something they don’t want to believe. This usually happens with fundamentalist democrats or republicans or with fundamentalists in any religion.
You say you are neither conservative nor liberal but let me guess: you have never voted for a Democrat. The President has shown a valid birth certificate. Do you really think someone can run for President of the US without proving citizenship just as anyone has to do when getting a drivers license or passport. Do you think Hilary Clinton or John McCain would have passed up an issue like this? Do you think…ah, well. Go to http://www.factcheck.org/tag/birth-certificate/ As they say there you will never get it, not even birth announcements in two newspapers in Hawaii will convince you because your mind has been short circuited by your political belief.
As for the finger incident, it certainly was stupid and I’ll agree with your characterization that it was savage. It was reported by the Associated Press, covered in papers across the country and even reported on MSNBC, the most liberal of the liberal media. I didn’t see their coverage so I don’t know how they reported it. I doubt they thought it was funny.
You’ve got a good mind. Don’t let it get trapped in a fundamentalist point of view.

(Consider the disruptive tactic now being employed at town meetings across the country where democratic senators and congressmen and citizens who came to listen and to be heard are being shouted down. This tactic is praised by Fox News yahoos as free speech. Wait a minute good buddy. What about the free speech of the rest of the people in the room?)

I can't believe what I am reading! It was a Democrat supporter of Obamas' health plan that savagely bit off the finger of a Repulican at a town hall in Thousand Oaks!!! Talk about out of control! Why is that not discussed? If that had been a Republican it would be all over the place showing what heathens they are.

Anyone who could do such a dispicable thing needs to be locked away for the safety of society.

From what I have learned, it is the Democrats that put these people in place to start disruption and the Republicans are falling into the trap. Don't be deceived.

BTW, the lies that Clinton told were to the Grand Jury which is a Federal Felony offense. It doesn't matter WHAT he lied about, it is the fact he lied to a Grand Jury(and the entire nation) and was not convicted of that felony. If you choose to accept that the leader of this nation can break the laws of the land and get off clean, that is your choice. A nation reflects the morals and actions of the leaders. Look where we are today. There has not been a decent man in the Oval Office in my lifetime and now we have stopped scraping the bottom of the dirty barrel for a 'leader', we are scraping under the nasty thing.
